TopMed Medical Aid
As the demand for good - and perhaps most importantly affordable - medical aid increases then so does the number of companies competing to offer it. TopMed has been in business since 1972 though, making it far from a fly by night newcomer.
Basic Medical Aid Options
There are, in all, eight different basic options available for potential scheme members to choose from. These range from the very comprehensive TopMed Rainbow Comprehensive which is designed for those with heavy medical needs (often those with chronic conditions that call for constant management) to the lowest level TopMed Limited that provides a more traditional hospital only coverage that is best suited to the usually healthy, younger person who has little need for extensive day to day coverage.
One of the sections of the population who are perhaps most likely to benefit from a TopMed plan are full time students under the age of 24 who need to purchase their own basic medical cover.
The TopMed Network option is designed with them specifically in mind and offers comprehensive cover, including a private hospital of the patient's choice, at a special reduced rate that will remain unchanged as long as the member is enrolled in school and is 24 years or under. TopMed is one of the few medical aid schemes to offer a plan like this and for students (and their often worried parents) this may well be worth the investment.
When choosing between the various levels of coverage and plan options in addition to well laid out charts on the company website and a number of downloadable, printable brochures you can, if you choose, make a request from the website to have a customer rep contact you at a convenient to you time to go over your options with you.
TopMed offers, for a small additional premium on any plan, access to both ithriverewards Health Platform wellness resources, which offers savings on gym fees, movies, meals out and a number of other benefits.
In the very busy world we all live in the easier it is to get a medical aid claim submitted, and more importantly, paid, the better. Those who are smartphone fans, and that is a lot of us, will be glad to know that TopMed offer apps for both the iOS and Android operating systems that will allow them to submit, and track the progress, of claims directly via the app. If you are not an app person though you can still submit via phone, snail mail or email although processing will be a little bit slower via those methods though.
